| THE BRIDGE BETWEEN MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN |
With the industry moving both into deep nanometer
processes and a fabless business model, the need for design-for-manufacturability
(DFM) solutions is becoming more critical. These DFM solutions not only need to
address the reason for yield differences between two designs created with the
same design rules, but also assist designers in dealing with the impact of process
variation on key elements such as timing and speed.
In addition, the DFM solution of today needs to be able to convert manufacturing
process variability into models that designers understand, and inject these models
with the right level of accuracy at the right place in the design flow. Moreover
the design community is not homogenous. Depending upon their area of expertise they
use different design flows, require different levels of accuracy, and different levels
of flexibility.
